Who Was CR Smith?

Cyrus Rowlett Smith or CR Smith was an aviation pioneer who became president of American Airlines in 1934 at the age of 35 years old. There were open cockpit airplanes during the beginning of his time with American Airlines. He led in the transformation of American airlines going from an unprofitable carrier into the largest airline in the world.

Our Mission

We talk about the history of American Airlines The story is told through those who have worked there as team members. We seek to educate the public and those who want to know more about aviation and the process of running a major airline like American Airlines. 

Permanent Exhibitions At The Museum

There are several permanent exhibitions that you can view all year long. These include: flight simulators, Flagship Knoxville DC3, MD-80 Cockpit, We are American Airlines, Baggage Loader, Why I Fly, American Airlines Global, 9/11 Memorial, Airline Command Center, Your Voice, Your Story and the Evacuation Slide.

Education At The Museum

We offer education through the Aviation STEM Camp 2021, Virtual STEM Workshops, and Facebook Live.
